International
Taxation
DKC Tax International provides the strategies and
solutions to help your company gain momentum in an increasingly complex
arena. President Larry Rigal has more than two decades of experience
in international tax planning, research and compliance for a Fortune
500 global manufacturer.
We specialize in providing tax services for U.S. expatriates, resident
alien, and nonresident alien clients. Our customer service is second
to none in this area. Our mission is only complete when we have:
• Prepared accurate tax returns
• Minimized the client’s tax liability
• Prepared an equitable equalization
• Counseled with the employee to minimize his/her tax concerns
• Provided timely support to our corporate employer
We have prepared over 1000 of these returns for employees of major
corporations, including Fortune 500 companies.
We also have the expertise to prepare tax returns for people competing
in sports in the United States, or anywhere in the world! Whether US
citizens competing abroad, or citizens of a foreign country competing
in the United States, we can assist them in meeting their tax filing
obligations, and minimize the overall tax burden.
Tax Equalization:
Equalization is the process by which an expatriate or foreign national’s
tax liability is adjusted so that the employee pays no more or no less
income tax than they would if they were to stay in their home country.
Under this tax protection, a “hypothetical” tax is calculated.
This is done by figuring out what the employee would have earned had
they not been assigned overseas. In other words, it is their estimated
home country earnings, excluding any foreign compensation. Taxes are
withheld from the employee’s paycheck, which is in essence, the
hypothetical tax.
An expatriate working in a foreign country that has a higher tax rate
than their home country would only be responsible to the extent of
their tax in their home country. In the reverse scenario where the
foreign tax is less than the tax in the employee’s home country,
the employee is only liable to the extent of the foreign tax. The employer
will retain any benefit or assume any burden as a result of these two
situations.
The process of figuring your tax equalization can be a very difficult
process to understand and calculate. Our staff has the know-how and
the experience of performing over one thousand tax equalizations. We
are confident that we can make your foreign tax concerns as painless
as possible. With years of experience in dealing with tax equalization,
and accompanied by a very solid reputation for delivering outstanding
customer service, we are only satisfied when our work is complete and
accurate.
